Information About the Textbook
Our textbook

You will need the textbook before the second class meeting. If you do not have the textbook, you will not be able to read the book (which is an important part of the learning experience in this course) or do the homework assignments (which comprise 24% of your course grade). Late homework will incur a substantial penalty and will not be accepted at all more than one class after the original due date.
Another important reason for making sure you get the textbook on time: The first few sections of the textbook set the foundation for much of the material we will cover during the first half of the course. If you are unable to read the textbook or do the homework at the beginning of the course, you may find it difficult to understand the subsequent material and you will be putting your grade at risk!
There are two good options for obtaining the textbook described below. Scroll down to the bottom for your instructor's recommendation.

Cengage
The textbook publisher (Cengage) provides several options for obtaining the textbook, including access to an electronic version of the textbook (eBook). If you prefer to read the textbook online, you may want to consider this option.

Rental (hardcopy textbook)

You will receive a hardcopy of the textbook for the duration of the rental period. It generally takes 5-7 days to ship the textbook. You will receive free access to the eBook version until the textbook arrives in the mail. (Free access to the eBook ends after 14 days.)
You will be able to write in your textbook as if you had purchased it, as long as the textbook is usable for other students when you return it.

Third Party Vendors
Beware of vendors other than the Morton College bookstore or Cengage. Students who have used third party vendors in the past have sometimes encountered considerable shipping delays, which meant they were unable to read the textbook or do the homework assignments at the beginning of the course, both of which will jeopardize your grade. In some cases, students even received the wrong version of the textbook (e.g., an "international" version which is not the same as our textbook).
